Re-defining Self is a personal development and career fulfillment workbook designed for the mature Christian. This program offers an innovative approach to understanding ourselves and the world of work. While secular versions of personal development focus on improving self-awareness, self-esteem and self-concept, Re-defining Self concentrates on self-awareness and God-awareness. Knowing who we are in Christ empowers us live life to our greatest potential for it is in Christ we are brought to fullness (Col 2:9). In addition, traditional theories of career development primarily focus on matching personality traits with vocational factors. While personality is an important aspect to consider, Re-defining Self focuses on Holy Spirit direction in understanding our purpose in life. When we trust in the Lord with all our heart, and lean not on our own understanding, and when we acknowledge Him in all our ways, God makes our paths straight. The foundational belief of this program is that our career does not take the place of our core identity, rather our career is an opportunity to use the gifts God has given us to grow His Kingdom.
The purpose of this workbook is to help individuals develop a mindset that takes every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. Employing a Spirit-led approach, Re-defining Self encourages Christians to STOP wasting their time running to and fro by following the values of this world. Career anxiety is on the rise! Endless possibilities, the fear of missing out (FOMO) and thoughts of never having enough can relentlessly invade a person’s mind. This is NOT God’s plan for our lives.
This workbook is aimed at followers of Christ who are determined to not only pursue a healthy and strong relationship with the Lord but desire to carry out His plans for their life. The Fruit of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control; Galatians 5:22-23) comes when we walk forward in faith, believing that God has a plan and purpose for our lives (Jeremiah 29:11). As we move forward in faith, the Lord establishes our steps (Proverbs 16:9). He encourages us to move when He says move and stay when He says stay. God reassures his people to “not be anxious for anything” (Philippians 4:6) and cautions us that “unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted (Psalm 127:1).”
Re-defining Self helps individuals learn how to access the power of the Holy Spirit through spiritual and narrative counseling techniques such as mindful meditation, transformational prayer, reflective journaling and an assortment of rich, interactive activities.
Whether you are a high school student contemplating your future, a young adult seeking employment, a middle-aged adult changing career paths or a retired person wanting to stay connected to community, Re-defining Self offers an honest and refreshing way to find direction and meaning in your life.
