Don’t just go through life. GROW through life!
I offer individual and group therapy for clients ages 12 and up.
Specific Focus Areas include: ADD/ADHD, Anger, Anxiety, Depression, Executive Functioning Weaknesses, Fear, Guilt, High-Functioning Autism, Loneliness, Negative Thinking, Overcoming Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES), Sadness, Self-Esteem, Sexual Abuse, Shame, Shyness, Non-Suicidal Self-Injury, Stress, Trauma, Trouble Focusing, Worry
Taking care of your emotional health and psychological well-being is just as important as taking care of your physical health. In fact, they usually go hand in hand! Just as a physical therapist helps people regain functional physical health, a mental health therapist helps people regain functional mental health.
I am a licensed mental health counselor, board certified coach, and a certified fitness trainer. Equally important, I am an ACES survivor, mother of three boys, wife, school-based mental health professional, mentor and friend. I don’t just come to the session with textbook knowledge, I bring a large amount of personal experience. Most of the therapy approaches and skills that I teach to my clients, I have used on myself. I’ve worked with people of all ages ranging from 1 year old to 80 years old. I’ve worked in educational settings, community settings and private practice. I take an eclectic approach to counseling – realizing that every person is unique and what works for one person may not work for another. I customize traditional and alternative approaches to ensure holistic and individualistic SPIRIT, SOUL (Thoughts, Feelings & Behaviors) and BODY fitness for my clients.
To name a few, here are some of the areas in which I am trained: Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Counseling, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Growth Mindset and Positive Re-Framing, Solution-Focused Therapy, Restorative Release, Progressive Muscle Relaxation, Guided Imagery, Fitness Training to include cardio, sculpt and stretch programs, Transformation Prayer, Lectio Divina Meditation and Prayer, Prayer-Based Emotional Freedom Tapping and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction.
During the first session, we will identify the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that shape your life. I will listen for patterns to help you figure out what’s working, what’s not, and together, we will come up with goals and a therapy plan that will help you make positive changes. I call this your personalized GROW plan.
I will offer skills and strategies that you can practice between therapy sessions, and, if needed, I will even provide short coaching calls/emails, free of charge, between sessions to help you implement the skills we address in session.
Eventually you will meet your therapeutic goals and will leave therapy with the ability to recognize patterns in yourself and the ability to make changes on your own using the skills you learned in sessions.
In the beginning, therapy usually works best when meeting once per week for individual sessions. As you grow new thought, feeling and behavior patterns, therapy will move to bi-weekly session and eventually to monthly sessions. It typically takes 3-6 months to achieve desired results. Also, I’ve had several clients book “booster sessions” as needed after they officially ended therapy.
Sometimes you feel worse before you feel better–that’s normal. Some clients may want to meet more than once per week and that is okay.
Initial 75 Minute SEED Session – Getting to know each other and to begin looking at your goals. During this time, we will also review the intake paperwork and go over any questions you may have.
Not sure if you want to commit to a 75-minute Seed Session?
No problem! Book a 30-Minute SOW Session.
What’s a SOW SESSION?
You are valuable! Don’t waste your time and energy with the wrong coach or counselor! Book a 30-minute phone session for only $30. During this session, we will address your current issue/struggle and determine the best solution. If you decide that we make a good fit, we will schedule a SEED Session. If not, I will offer ideas, resources and referrals to other providers that may help.

Cherie did not grow up in church nor does she have a theological degree. Cherie experienced the covering of the Holy Spirit one evening when she was 12 years old. She cried out to God to make the sounds of her parents go away (domestic violence, drugs, inappropriate sexual conduct, etc…) and instantly she was blanketed with a Spirit of Peace. Fourteen years later, at the age of 26, she was baptized in water. Then, at age 46, she endured what she calls, “The Refiner’s Fire” and her spiritual eyes were opened. This spiritual awakening experience changed every aspect of her life. Cherie studies the Word of God daily. She attends Living Message Church and offers christian counseling and life coaching to families in need.
Every person has a plan and purpose for their lives.
“I firmly believe mine is to show the love of Christ by healing the brokenhearted and binding up their wounds. I want to help people break free from the strongholds that distract, strangle and suffocate their lives.” Cherie
